Deputy PM Meets With Reconciliation Commission Members

Addis Ababa- Deputy Prime Minister Demeke Mekonnen today held discussion with members of the Reconciliation Commission.

“Despite all of the occasional challenges we are facing now, the broader picture is a hopeful one,” he told the participants.

The successful filling of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) and the economic growth registered amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic all mark great hope for the country, he stated.

“Though we are making good progresses, there are problems we are experiencing occasionally,” he said.

“However, these challenges won’t hamper the main goals that Ethiopia has set to achieve,” the Deputy Premier said.

Lauding the Commission for the efforts it has made so far, he urged it to expand its reach to different parts of the country in the future.

The Deputy Premier assured the Commission of government’s support and also urged the members to work closely with various institutions to boost the Commission’s capacity.

Yetnebersh Niguse, Deputy Chairperson of the Commission for her part provided a briefing to the Deputy Premier about the works done by the Commission so far.

She further said the Commission has a plan to open 11 branch offices across the nation this Ethiopian fiscal year.
